MONTREAL — April 14, 2026 — Applauz, a global leader in employee recognition and rewards technology, released its highly anticipated annual report, State of Employee Recognition 2026, revealing a major shift in how companies drive engagement, culture, and performance.

The report, analyzing platform data from 2024–2025, shows that recognition is no longer a nice-to-have HR program—it’s a strategic lever for business success. Employee appreciation is evolving from occasional awards to frequent, peer-to-peer interactions that build daily cultural habits and fuel engagement across teams.

"The findings show organizations are stepping into a stage of ‘recognition maturity.’ Today, appreciation is becoming a shared, organization-wide habit rather than a niche HR-driven activity."

Key Findings from the 2026 Report

  • The Manager Signal: While peers account for the highest volume of recognition (50%), manager participation is the strongest predictor of team engagement. In high-performing organizations, 82% of managers actively send recognition, compared to just 58% in average companies.

  • The “First Send” Gap: Although 86% of employees log in, only 42% ever send recognition. This 44-point gap represents the largest untapped opportunity for HR leaders to accelerate cultural adoption.

  • The Points Economy Is Heating Up: Points redemption has jumped from 48% to 69% in three years. Employees are converting recognition into tangible rewards faster than ever, with gift cards dominating daily wins (69%) and merchandise leading service milestones (93%).

  • Service Awards Remain Vital: Recognition tied to tenure milestones remains highly meaningful, with redemption rates between 93% and 97%, and a median time-to-redemption of just 31 days.

  • Industry Benchmarks: Professional Services leads in recognition volume (10.7 recognitions per employee), while the Technology sector has the broadest participation, with 84% of users actively sending recognition.

The report identifies three “Levers of Success” that separate top-performing organizations—those generating 6.1x more recognition than peers. The full State of Employee Recognition 2026 report is now available for HR leaders and business executives looking to benchmark their culture and engagement strategies against leading organizations.
