AI Data Studio

📊 What Is AI Data Studio?

AI Data Studio is a reporting dashboard inside Applauz that lets you explore your organization's engagement data — recognition activity, points, badge trends, team activity, and more. It's designed for managers and admins who want data-driven insights without needing to export spreadsheets.

There are two ways to use it:

  • Pre-Built Reports — a library of ready-made reports you can run instantly with adjustable filters.
  • AI Chat Assistant — ask questions in plain language and get visual charts back. (SOON TO BE PAID FEATURE)

  1. Log in to the Applauz Hub
  2. In the left sidebar, expand Reports
  3. Click AI Data Studio

📋Pre-Built Reports FREE

Pre-built reports give you instant access to common views of your organization's data. Click a report card from the main page to open it.

Available Reports

Report What It Shows
Activity Breakdown Monthly breakdown of platform activity by type: recognitions, reactions, comments, and posts
Activity Share by Department Proportion of total platform activity contributed by each department
Department Engagement Scorecard Per-department engagement score weighted by recognitions, comments, reactions, and unique participants
Monthly Active Recognizers Unique recognition givers and receivers per month over the last year — tracks adoption
Most Popular Badges Badges awarded most often and how many different employees have given them
Points Awarded Over Time Total points given per day over time
Recognition Between Departments Cross-department recognition patterns — which departments recognize each other
Recognition Trend Daily recognition count over time, with unique givers and receivers
Top Recipients Leaderboard of employees who received the most recognitions in the specified period
Top Recognizers Leaderboard of employees who gave the most recognitions in the specified period

Running a Report

  1. Click a report card from the AI Data Studio main page
  2. Adjust the filters as needed (see below)
  3. Results load automatically as a chart or table

Adjusting Filters

Each report shows its active filters at the top of the results panel. Click Edit to modify them.

Filter What It Does
Start / End Date Filter results to a specific time range
Limit Cap the number of results (e.g. "Top 10")
User Narrow results to specific users
Group Narrow results to a specific group
Department Narrow results to a specific department

Viewing Results

Most reports support three view modes. Toggle between them using the tabs at the top of the results panel:

  • 📊Bar — great for comparing categories side by side
  • 🥧Pie — shows proportions of a whole at a glance
  • 📄Table — full detail view with sortable columns

Exporting Data

Every report includes an Export CSV button in the top-right corner. This downloads the raw data as a spreadsheet you can open in Excel or Google Sheets.


💬AI Chat Assistant PAID FEATURE

The AI Chat Assistant lets you ask questions in plain English. The assistant understands your question, generates a query against your data, and returns a visual chart — no SQL required.

To access it, go to Reports › AI Data Studio and type your question in the chat box at the top of the page.

Tips for Better Results

  • Be specific about time — "last month", "Q1 2024", "last 30 days"
  • Name the metric — "count", "total points", "average"
  • Mention grouping — "by team", "by department", "per week"
  • Use "my team" to automatically filter to your direct reports
  • ✗Avoid vague questions like "show me the data" or "activity report"
Chart Types

The assistant automatically picks the most appropriate visualization for your question:

⚡Known Limitations

🕐 Data may not be real-time
AI Data Studio syncs with a data warehouse periodically — not in real-time. Very recent activity (within the last 1–4 hours) may not yet appear in results.
 
👥 "My team" uses current relationships
When you query "my team", the assistant uses your current direct reports — not who was on your team at a specific point in the past. For historical team analysis, use specific user IDs or group filters instead.
 
🧩Complex queries may struggle
The AI works best with focused, single-metric questions. Highly complex analysis (percentiles, multi-level aggregations) may produce unexpected results. For recurring complex reports, ask an admin to create a pre-built report.
 
⏱️Query timeout — 30 seconds
If a query fails due to timeout, try: adding a date filter to reduce the dataset, reducing the result limit, or simplifying the question.
 
📏Chart size limits
Charts render best within these ranges: Bar/Pie with 3–20 categories, Line with up to 100 data points, Table paginated at 50 rows. Large result sets may be truncated in visualizations.
 
🔒SQL is never visible
The underlying query is never shown to users — this is by design for security. You see the results, not the query.

🔧Troubleshooting

"No data" message
Widen the date range; check filters aren't too restrictive
 
Report not appearing
May be disabled by admin, or scoped to a different organization
 
Permission error
You need the view:report.culture permission — contact your admin
 
"Service unavailable"
Wait a moment and try again
 
Conversation ended
Click "New Chat" to start a fresh conversation
 
Unexpected results
Be more specific in your question; use follow-up messages to refine
 
Query timed out
Add a date filter, reduce the limit, or simplify the question
